AprSalesforce CPQ Amendments are a powerful tool that lets users modify their customer's current contracts. Changes such as adding new products, adjusting asset or subscription quantities, or terminating existing products can be made using Amendments. But before you dive in, it's crucial to understand what you can and can't do with Amendments.
First things first, Amendments don't allow for price adjustments. If you're making changes to existing products, the pricing can't be modified, and the price information will be carried over from the existing subscription line. Updated list prices won't be used, and new or modified discount schedules won't be reflected in the pricing. The additional discount provided on the original quote will be carried over and locked from further modification. But don't worry, new quote lines can be freely discounted!
Another thing to keep in mind is that Amendments only work if there's a quantity change. This means that if you want to change the quantities of existing products while providing a different discount than the original quote, or modify the price/discount of existing products without a quantity change, you'll have to cancel the original subscription and create a new one with the amended price or discount. One common use case is when a client requires providing a different discount to customers on Amendments. In such cases, you cannot change the price or discount of an amended quote line. The best solution is to cancel the original subscription with the original price and create a new subscription with the amended price or discount. Price changes should be handled via swaps, meaning zeroing out the existing line and replacing it with a new line.
It's important to note that changing dates isn't a supported use case for Amendments. You can terminate existing products, add new ones, or increase or decrease the quantity, but you can't change the end date of a subscription. Simply put, there must be a quantity change.
So what can you do with Amendments? You can change quantities of existing products while maintaining the same discount as the original quote, change quantities or add new products and co-terminate to existing contracts, or terminate existing products. All quote lines on an Amendment quote, new lines as well as incremental changes, will be co-termed with the existing contract. Keep in mind that while co-termination can be disabled, the existing contract end date cannot be modified via an Amendment.
In conclusion, Salesforce CPQ Amendments can be an effective tool for modifying customer contracts, but it's crucial to be aware of their limitations before proceeding with any changes. By understanding these limitations, you can ensure that you make the most out of this powerful tool while avoiding any potential pitfalls.
