So you have successfully set up the Advanced Approvals package and configured Dynamic approvals? And now, it's time for approvers to go on vacations? You can assign delegated approvers to receive other user’s approval requests over a predefined time period when the original approvers can't respond to approvals even if dynamic approvals have been set up.

This can be easily set up in the Delegation Information section on the approver record (not the user record). There you will have to fill in three fields:

  • Delegated Approver - look up to the approver record of the user you want to delegate.

  • Delegation Start - the delegation period begins at 12:00 AM on the delegate start date.

  • Delegation End - the delegation period ends at 11:59 PM on the delegate end date.

Sometimes users complain that Dynamic approvals don't work with delegate approvers and that the approval requests get assigned to the original approvers instead of the delegated approvers. We have seen this happening when one approver has multiple approver records linked to its user. In this case, the package fails to identify correctly which approver record to consider and to pull the delegation information from. That's why it would be necessary to make sure that each approver has only one approver record linked to its user if you wish for the delegation to function correctly together with dynamic approvals.
